I am not a musician. I am a songwriter. My stories happen to have a melody. I need something to beat on as I present songs, which is where the guitar comes in. I don't read music and never had a single lesson in music theory, music composition or singing. I taught myself to play a few instruments over the years. I play and learn by ear.

I run into a lot of trained musicians that do well playing covers and they are good at what they do. What I perform is my own material and it comes from the heart. When you hear me perform my original songs, I am not singing, I am hollering and belting out something personal. It's been said that I "attack" the song, which is often true.

It really doesn't matter how talented a musician may be. Without a song or composition, which comes from a writer or composer, that musician has nothing to play. Songwriting is becoming a lost art. It takes a lot of work to write than and money to record them and I often ask myself, why bother? Ther answer is simple: songwriting is my outlet, and it is an expression that needs to be shared with others.

Any song or album of mine that you purchase, supports this artform and is much appreciated. Thank you for your support!

Thanks for a Great Show!

Thanks to everyone who came out and made the final Lucky Overton & The Yardangs show of the year so memorable! To our fans and friends, to the kind staff at 1874 Distilling Ltd., to Eli Dokson for killing it on lead guitar, to Brian Mott, who did stellar bass work, to Matt Wellmann, who brought such good, mellow vibes on his sax, and to Julie Reisinger for the pics and support! THANK YOU, EVERONE! We hope to do it again really soon! Stay tuned for album updates and more!
